Alex Roitman Tango Ensemble (ARTE) is a New England based group performing exciting authentic Argentine Tango music, for both dancers and listeners. Combining strong classical skills with the extensive tango style training and individual musicality, this ensemble brings the flavor of Buenos Aires to sophisticated New England audience.

Alex Roitman

The group is led by Alex Roitman, a bandoneonist disciple of Hector Del Curto. While living on the West Coast, Alex performed in San Francisco with his previous group Tangonero. Mr. Roitman is a member of a Stowe Tango Music Festival tango orchestra, and a silver medalist of the 2022 Che Bandoneon International Competition (also a bronze medalists of 2018 and 2019). He shared the stage with legendary tango musicians as Victor Lavallen, Horacio Cabarcos, Pablo Estigarribia, Jose Colangelo, Pablo Agri, Nicolas Ledesma, Humberto Ridolfi, Julio Pane and Nestor Marconi, as well as the members of Héctor Del Curto's quintet. In addition to his bandoneon work, Mr. Roitman has composed several tango pieces, made original arrangements and continues to work on transcribing and arranging great tango music of the past. In the fall of 2020, he relocated to the East Coast, and currently splits his time between ARTE and Boston Tango Orchestra in the summers and his Florida-based Alex Roitman Tango Ensemble in the winters.

Marcia Lehninger

A dual citizen of Germany and Brazil, Marcia Lehninger, violin, appears on the concert stage with many chamber ensembles, including her own Latin American group, Cuarteto Carioca. She also performs with Hartford, Springfield, Vermont and New Haven symphony orchestras, Orchestra New England, the Dartmouth Handel Society, and the Juno Orchestra. While living in Brazil, she was a member of the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra, Orquestra Petrobras Sinfônica, and Quarteto Continental. An esteemed educator, Lehninger served on the music faculty of Keene State College for 18 years, at the Hartt School of Music’s Community Division for several years and is currently coaching String Ensemble at Trinity College,CT. Most of her violin training comes from her father, violinist Erich Lehninger, and Paulo Bosisio, both pupils of violin pedagogue Max Rostal. She received a Bachelor’s degree from Uni-Rio, a Graduate Professional Diploma from the Hartt School of Music and a Master’s degree from the University of Connecticut, where she studied with Philip Setzer, Katie Lansdale, Theodore Arm and the Emerson String Quartet.

Jane Hua

Hua Ye (Jane) is a pianist born and raised in Urumqi, China. After earning a bachelor's degree in journalism at Hong Kong Baptist University, she moved to the U. S. to pursue her dream of classical music. Studying on full scholarship, Jane earned two M.M. degrees in Piano Performance and Collaborative Piano at Kansas State University and the UMass Amherst, respectively. She now performs as a solo and chamber musician in the Boston area while teaching through her piano studio, A St Pianos. Recent appearances for Greater Boston audiences include the Boston Public Library, Faneuil Hall, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Longwood Cricket Club, 2Life Communities Brighton Campus, Belmont-Watertown United Methodist Church, Carriage House Violins Masterclass Series, and Groupmuse salons.

Leo Karmiy

Bassist Leo Karmiy studied music in Ukraine since the age of 6. He studied classical piano, violin and later double bass and played electric Bass in a band including live performances and a TV appearance over in Ukraine. In the US Leo had taken lessons with well-known bassists and composers Ehud Ettune (classical and jazz) and Pedro Giraudo (tango). Leo played jazz with Boston groups BostoNova and Hot Club of Boston. Being an avid tango dancer Leo founded the Boston Tango Orchestra - an Argentine Tango ensemble comprised of 4-6 musicians. Leo continues to lead BTO since its inception in 2017. In addition to leading BTO, Mr Karmyi also performed with the Stowe Tango Music Festival orchestra, Scofano-Minetti trio, and shared the stage with world-renowned tango musicians Pablo Estigarribia, Pablo Agri, Nicolas Ledesma, Humberto Ridolfi, Julio Pane, Nestor Marconi, as well as the members of Héctor Del Curto's quintet.
